Sungnome moved to Humboldt in 1973 and completed his BS in Natural Resources in 1975 at Humboldt State University. He moved to the Mattole in 1979 and was a founding member of the Mattole Restoration Council, which formed under the Council Madrone in 1983. Sungnome returned to HSU to receive his MS in Watershed Management in 2011 and became MSG’s ED in late 2011. In 1995, Sungnome received the local chapter of the American Fisheries Society’s Restoration Award, and in 2005 he was named Restoration Worker of the Year by the Alliance for Sustainable Jobs and the Environment. He is a father of 4 and grandfather of 12 and is deeply rooted in the Humboldt community.
